Lawyer

Michael is a UK-trained lawyer working at the National IP office of Uganda. His main roles include examination and grant of trademarks, industrial designs, registration of copyright and related rights, legal advice, and research. He has been part of the team in reviewing the IP laws of Uganda, drafted cabinet memos for the ratification of World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Copyright Treaties, implementation of the Geographical Indications System and the reorganization of Collective Management Organisations (CMOs).

Before joining the National Intellectual Property Office (Uganda Registration Services Bureau), he was a Business Development Manager – Alternate Channels of Old Mutual Life Assurance, Territory Sales Manager Airtel Uganda.

His qualifications are; Master of Law (LLM) University of South Wales, Master of Research and Public Policy-Uganda Martyrs University, Dip. LP– Law Development Center, LLB University of London, Dip. Human Rights – Law Development Center. He has undertaken several advanced courses in IP by WIPO, trained in Georgia, Korea IP Office, and Swedish IP office in Geographical Indications, Industrial Designs and IP for Least Developed Countries (LDCs) respectively. He also possesses qualifications of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) UK. He is currently studying for MPhil (Intellectual Property) of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
